FASTag Update: The “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative by the Highways Authority of India (NHAI) seeks to stop users from using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple sticker user with a single vehicle.
NHAI FASTag Rules: Banks will deactivate or put on a blacklist any valid FASTags with a balance but incomplete KYC after January 31, 2024.
FASTag Deactivation Threatens Incomplete KYC Users 2024
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said on Monday that its “One Vehicle, One FASTag” initiative aims to discourage user behavior of using single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle. The NHAI is encouraging users of FASTag to complete their know-your-customer formalities in accordance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines.

The NHAI’s action follows claims that multiple FASTags were issued for a single vehicle and that FASTags were issued without KYC, which is against RBI mandate. Additionally, the NHAI claims that FASTags are occasionally purposefully left off of vehicles’ windscreens, which causes needless delays at toll booths and irritates other drivers on the National Highway.
The initiative, according to the authority, aims to improve the effectiveness of the nation’s electronic toll collection system while encouraging smooth movement at toll plazas.
It further stated that the “One Vehicle, One FASTag” campaign will guarantee smooth and comfortable travels for users of the National Highways and aid in improving the efficiency of toll operations.
How do FASTag users proceed? This is what NHAI suggests.
Users need to make sure that their latest FASTag’s KYC is finished in order to prevent any inconvenience. The highways authority stated in a statement on Friday that “FASTag users must also adhere to the principle of ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ and destroy all previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.
Additionally, it stated that after January 31, 2024, “only the latest FASTag account shall remain active” and that all previous tags would be deactivated or blacklisted.
“For further assistance or queries, FASTags users can reach out to nearest toll plazas or toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks,” said the NHAI.
One FASTag Policy, One Vehicle
The ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ policy has also been highlighted by the NHAI, with the objective of guaranteeing that every vehicle has a distinct FASTag. The purpose of this program is to deter using a single FASTag for several different vehicles.
Users of FASTag can contact their respective issuer banks’ toll-free customer care numbers or the closest toll plazas for additional assistance or to address any questions.
What is FASTag?
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is responsible for running the electronic toll collection system known as FASTag there. Vehicles using state and federal highways can pay for tolls smoothly and contactlessly thanks to the use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies.
FASTag, an electronic toll collection system run by the NHAI, has transformed toll collection in the nation with a penetration rate of about 98% and over eight crore users.
How It Works
FASTag is a tag that is installed on cars and is connected to a pre-paid account.
The toll system can read the FASTag as soon as the car gets close to a toll gate thanks to RFID technology, which then automatically deducts the appropriate toll amount from the user’s account. This considerably lessens traffic congestion by removing the need for drivers to stop at toll plazas.
Benefits of FASTag
Provides a number of benefits, such as:
- Cash-back incentives: During the fiscal year, the government offers up to 2.5% cashback on toll payments made with FASTag.
- Smooth traffic: FASTag guarantees efficient traffic flow at toll plazas, reducing congestion and enhancing commuter productivity.
- No need to give up: At toll plazas, drivers don’t need to stop their cars because the toll is automatically deducted from their prepaid account.
- Required execution: To guarantee efficient toll collection, the government has mandated that all vehicles traveling on national highways have a FASTag.
